After the Storm…

After the Storm…

It should only take one time before you know better. In the mist of the recent plethora of storms, it is safe to say “No one is a stranger to traumatic events!” Experiencing a devastating storm is a terrible life altering feeling. Once should be enough to know that preparation to an unexpected trauma is key to bouncing back. Now is the time to think ahead.

You need to have PROACTIVE PROTECTION  against any tragedy

#1 Guard Your Emotions

Be intelligent about your emotions. Don’t wait until a tragedy happens to be aware of your emotions and physical responses and reactions. KNOW your level of emotional vulnerability and have COPING STRATEGIES ahead of time.

#2 Guard Your Property

On social media the #1 topic after a tragic situation is how do I regain what was lost. Most people depend on crisis response from the government, but that is not reliable. INSURE your property with a property insurance plan.

#3 Guard Your Family

Have an emergency plan in place NOW. Know and practice responses and safe places for the family to find shelter. Also, have a plan for emergency cash, food and support systems. And don’t forget life and medical insurance policies.

Pay attention to the signs of stress and use some coping strategies to overcome stress.

 Stress and Stress Busters

#1 No rest!
Set boundaries around your time. Time is precious and you must protect it. Have a schedule. Do what is priority. The rest of your tasks can wait.

#2 Family! Family! And more Family!
Once again set b o u n d a r i e s. Delegate time for family. Make sure you delegate your tasks to others to prevent burnout during family gatherings.

#3 Money does not fall from the Christmas tree. Really it doesn’t. But if you don’t have a realistic budget, it will fall from your pockets and bank accounts. Be careful with your spending. Those bills are still due.

Family Vacation is Stressful… Time For Your Momcation

Family Vacation is Stressful… Time For Your Momcation

Now that school has started again… it’s time to enjoy a little more down time. Summer equals fun time for children but more stress for the mom.
Summer vacation means buying more food, cleaning up more messes, driving to more activities, finding babysitters while you work AND family vacation. But let’s face the facts… family vacation can sometimes be anything but more relaxing.
Since all of that summer stress is in the rearview mirror while you drop kids off to school…. It’s time for a momcation! (or dadcation- can’t forget about the daddy duties).

Why is a momcation so important?

#1 Stress Relief
An excess amount of stress causes other ailments such as heart disease, strokes and high blood pressure. Moms- if you do not take care of you, you cannot care for your family and career effectively. It’s okay to set yourself up for regular stress relief vacations.

#2 Refocus
Less stress makes you more productive. A momcation decreases your need to take time off from work and other mommy duties. Refocusing allows you to realistically balance your life and reduce overwhelm.

#3 Love & Happiness
Strengthen your intimate relationship. Regular time to regain yourself allows less tension when satisfying your significant other. Everyone desires more love and more happiness. Stress can stop the connection in relationships.

Addiction is Seductive

Addiction is Seductive

Addiction is a battle that many lose to over and over again. The good news is….even though you may lose the battles, you can win the war.
One big challenge with addictive behaviors is that people mainly recognize only drugs and alcohol as the culprits. Today sex addiction is becoming more of an issue in relationships.

An article published on foxnews.com highlights the sex addiction of a former NFL football player Mike Caussin. His sex addiction has caused marital issues between him and wife Jana Kramer. Within the article the couple mention a few pointers to shed light about how to overcome sex addiction within a marriage.

This is what happens when you don’t face your addiction.

#1 Shame On You!
Most people don’t seek help for addictions because it will cause shame and embarrassment. The true shame of addiction occurs when you don’t admit you have an issue and when you don’t seek the treatment you need.

#2 A Rocky Family.
Active and continuous addictive behaviors when left untreated will cause family instability. Addiction doesn’t just affect the prime participant, it has adverse emotional and physical effects on all family members.

#3 You lose.
Addictive behaviors cause you to become ineffective in significant areas of your life. When you fail to properly address the issues of addiction your lifestyle goes down. You lose financial, material, relationships, careers, family and most importantly you lose YOURSELF.

Everybody knows somebody. Battles with addiction should not be faced alone.

Did You Have an Awful Holiday? Here's How to Fix It...

Did You Have an Awful Holiday? Here's How to Fix It...

Now that Christmas 2018 is behind us many of you are probably reflecting on those family relationships that seemed a little awkward or tense.  Family Christmas celebrations have power to be the most stressful and depressing times of the year. During Christmas celebrations there is a compromise between enjoying family engagement or enjoying the gifts (especially if the gifts are not liked or appreciated).

How do you get over lousy family relationships and crappy gifts after the holiday? Try these tips...

#1 Plan your vacation immediately after. In order to offset the annoying family and ugly gifts have your next luxurious vacay already planned out. When your nerves become on the edge visualize yourself enjoying time away, create great memories to override the terrible experience.

#2 Focus on the good memories. Remember when grandma was dancing like she was 16 again? What about the gag gift that your great aunt received that had everyone laughing? You have to remind yourself of the good to overcome the bad.

#3 Talk to a trusted family member. To keep you from feeling bad about the Christmas family time, tell someone who can understand how you feel. The good thing about sharing your feeling is that someone else will relate to you and you will not feel alone. Depression and stress results from holiday gatherings because you keep your dissatisfaction bottled up instead of releasing the tension.

Are you struggling with building better relationships?
GinMan Consulting can help you work through the 3Cs to a Thriving Relationship.

The Other Side of Depression

The Other Side of Depression

A hidden fire... depression! Many refuse to seek treatment for depression due to the unsettling stigma and lack of support society displays. Despite the many unwelcoming embraces that a depression sufferer often faces, there is another backside to depression. Even though family and friends are also gravely affected by loved ones with symptoms of depression, rarely do they receive treatment along with their loved ones. Both affected parties are riddled with sadness, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness and suicidal ideations simultaneously when only one has the diagnosis. When loved ones are suffering with depression, family and friends feel helpless, restless and scared.

What does the family and friends of these victims of depression need for strength?

#1 Moving family and friends from worry to optimism
Use the power of positivity. Depression is a dark and dreary disease that produces negative and sad feelings. Reverse the affect by surrounding yourself with positive people, places, situations, words and actions. Family and friends need to be loaded with infinite amounts of energetic vibes, thoughts and feelings.

#2 Moving family and friends from codependent to supportive
Be on the same team without being a crutch. Feeling sorry for a loved one with depressive moods is a normal reaction. Overcome codependency that can keep loved ones stuck with depressive feelings. Know that it is the responsibility of the sufferer along with your support to accept the help available to manage depression.

#3 Moving family and friends from guilt to security
Don’t abandon your security blanket. Not being able to help soothe and manage the depression of a loved one effectively causes feelings of guilt. Ensure yourself that you have done all you can to show unconditional love and support for the struggles that are present without feeling responsible. If you have done all you can do in a healthy way, that’s all you can do.

Family therapy is a great way to work through and manage symptoms of depression for everyone involved. It offers a sense of togetherness and support that increases the chance of successful and long- term recovery from depression.
