Depression is Not a Sign of Weakness

Do you often hear voices in your head, whispering things to you, or you feel irritable, suicidal, anxious and you have a hopeless outlook of your life? These are symptoms of depression.

It is not news that depression whispers bad things into your mind about your capabilities. You hear things like “You can’t even do anything right, your life is a mess, why don’t you have a family at this age, your mates are making progress, you are too fat, or you are ugly,” and every other statement that makes you feel particularly bad about yourself.

If you are wondering why you keep feeling this way, no one knows what causes depression. It can occur due to a variety of reasons. It could be as a result of:

#1 Abuse

#2 Medications

#3 Death or loss of loved one

#4 Genetics

#5 Major life events

#6 Substance abuse

#7 Serious illnesses

Due to different symptoms of depression, it is a common assumption that depressed people are weak and not strong enough. What is worse is even people with depression blame themselves and feel their lack of strength is the reason they are depressed.

However, those who face depression are doing so with great strength, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Regardless of these factors, in life, everything negative, pressure and challenges is an opportunity for you to rise.

Stay positive and face life with hope and motivation.

Adapting to new beginnings can sometimes feel a little rough, but in many ways, the beauty in enjoying your new beginning is the sense of adventure that comes from it.

Why You Should Practice Self-Care

Why You Should Practice Self-Care

Source: https://www.pexels.com/photo/self-care-isn-t-selfish-signage-2821823/

Sam Owen said: “How we care for ourselves gives our brain messages that shape our self-worth, so we must care for ourselves in every way, every day.” This is why you should always practice self-care.

Self-care is an important way of relieving mental stress and building self-confidence. It is more than caring for your physical body; it also involves you paying adequate attention to your psychological and emotional well-being. The moment you are fine on the inside, everything on the outside would have to dance to the tune of what’s going on inside.

To adequately practice self-care, you should be aware of what satisfies your emotional needs; you should be aware of those things that you enjoy doing and those things that help you recuperate after a stressful day or activity. You have to understand yourself and how your body reacts amid crisis.

You should develop self-control in the face of any challenge and also, build your sense of worthiness. The moment your self-worth is thwarted, you cannot maintain your self-confidence, and ultimately, you lose your inner balance.

Self-care is comprehensive. It involves all things that help you maintain your health, reduce stress, and make you mentally fit.

Here are some germane reasons you should practice self-care:

·         It will help you boosts your self-esteem.

·         It will help you maintain healthy thoughts.

·         It will help you stay intrinsically motivated in the face of challenges.

·         It will boost your productivity and efficiency in all aspects of life.

·         It will help you maintain a good and healthy relationship with yourself and others.

Never allow anyone to make you feel like you are selfish when practicing self-care because self-care is not selfishness. When you do not practice self-care, you are actually robbing yourself and others around you of the joy of seeing the best version of you.

“It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary.” – Mandy Hale

Eating Disorders and The Road to Recovery

Eating Disorders and The Road to Recovery

 https://www.pexels.com/photo/flat-lay-photography-of-vegetable-salad-on-plate-1640777/

No one ever woke up and said: “Today I want to have an eating disorder”. Most times, anorexia and bulimia stem from distorted body image as a result of anxiety, depression, emotional trauma, and societal expectations. Those suffering from these conditions often view extreme weight loss and dieting as a way to look good, acceptable and regain control in their lives.

It starts from skipping a meal or two, binge eating, and vomiting. Then, it starts to become a habit. However, recovery is possible even though it’s difficult. It is normal to feel anxious and wonder if you’ll slip back into your old habits. Your fears are valid because sometimes what you are most afraid of doing might set you free.

Here are a few things you should know on your way to recovery:

#1 Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself

Being too self-critical won’t help you in recovering. Instead, it can cause feelings of shame and exacerbate an already difficult situation. Stay positive and use affirmative words to tackle self-critical thoughts.

#2 Seek Help

Research shows that people with eating disorders are more likely to recover with a professional treatment plan in place. Motivational and self-care books cannot replace the guidance of a qualified doctor or dietician.

#3 Be Patient with Yourself

Total recovery can take years, and people often struggle with relapse. Have faith in yourself and seek support when you need it. Talk to people who have earned your trust and let them hold your hand during weak moments.

You’re perfect the way you are. Love your body and in moments when recovery feels painful, keep pushing forward because it means you are making progress.

Good Stress vs. Bad Stress: How to Tell the Difference

Good Stress vs. Bad Stress: How to Tell the Difference

Stress is our body’s response to fear and anxiety. It is a survival instinct. While we are rushing to meet project deadlines, sitting in traffic or juggling family life it is easy to get overwhelmed.

However, some kinds of stress can be a motivating force in your life—like worrying about a project, presentation, competing for promotion or even going on a first date. Good stress is the type of stress you feel when excited. Your pulse accelerates and you feel the surging of your hormones. It keeps you feeling great and excited about life. However, bad stress occurs when you repeatedly face stressors that take a heavy toll on your mood.

It could be a stressful job, an unhappy lifestyle or something that constantly puts you in a bad mood and makes you lose interest in family and hobbies.

So how do you deal with good stress vs. bad stress?

#1 Dedicate time to Yoga and meditation

#2 Take walks frequently

#3 Maintain social connections

#4 Exercise regularly

#5 Always remind yourself of your strengths

#6 Have a positive mindset

#7 Try to see the potential benefits of every situation

#8 Create your method of self-care

#9 Try journaling whenever you feel overwhelmed

#10 Plan ahead

#11 Reach out for help

How to Stay Motivated When Feeling Stressed

How to Stay Motivated When Feeling Stressed

Source: https://www.pexels.com/photo/black-and-white-laptop-2740956/

Life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes, it is natural to lose motivation. But how often do you find yourself losing motivation, every day? once a week? or once a month? It is hard to stay motivated when you are stressed, and it is difficult to find joy unless you get that rest.

Different things could be stressing you out. Life changes, uncertainties, overwhelming responsibilities, pressure, and more are just a few causes of stress. Fortunately, you can refuel your motivation without paying a penny.

Our brain is powerful, and you can confront stress and rejuvenate your brain to stay motivated through life’s challenges.

Here are some tips you can apply when it feels like you are on a low:

#1 Go Outdoors

Take advantage of the elements! Enjoy nature and bask in its warmth. Find a comfortable spot where you can relax and enjoy the weather. Rather than moping indoors, find time to go outside.

#2 Eat Healthy

Make a consistent effort to keep meals balanced. Be sure to control your portion. Eat more vegetables and fruits and take water instead of caffeinated drinks.

#3 Prioritize

Always map out a detailed schedule of what lies ahead each week. Creating a schedule encourages productivity. That way, you will know if a certain week is going to be stressful, and you can prepare for it.

#4 Create a Reward System

At the end of each week, find a way to reward yourself. Whether it is a weekend getaway or a special outing with friends, simply do something that brings you joy!

And every time you feel those little worries creeping in, remember;

Worrying never robs tomorrow of its sorrow; it only saps today of its joy.

Family Vacation is Stressful… Time For Your Momcation

Family Vacation is Stressful… Time For Your Momcation

Now that school has started again… it’s time to enjoy a little more down time. Summer equals fun time for children but more stress for the mom.
Summer vacation means buying more food, cleaning up more messes, driving to more activities, finding babysitters while you work AND family vacation. But let’s face the facts… family vacation can sometimes be anything but more relaxing.
Since all of that summer stress is in the rearview mirror while you drop kids off to school…. It’s time for a momcation! (or dadcation- can’t forget about the daddy duties).

Why is a momcation so important?

#1 Stress Relief
An excess amount of stress causes other ailments such as heart disease, strokes and high blood pressure. Moms- if you do not take care of you, you cannot care for your family and career effectively. It’s okay to set yourself up for regular stress relief vacations.

#2 Refocus
Less stress makes you more productive. A momcation decreases your need to take time off from work and other mommy duties. Refocusing allows you to realistically balance your life and reduce overwhelm.

#3 Love & Happiness
Strengthen your intimate relationship. Regular time to regain yourself allows less tension when satisfying your significant other. Everyone desires more love and more happiness. Stress can stop the connection in relationships.
