The Big Set Up: Check Your Self- Esteem- February 25, 2017 Book Signing Speech

The Big Set Up! Master Your Journey Book Signing: February 25, 2017

As I was planning out the Master Your Journey Tour, I looked back and realized that the next stop was February 25th, my birthday. Today was like a part of the perfect set up once again.

Jeremiah 1:5 (New Living Translation) says:
"I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations."

I can't express enough how life's challenges are merely a part of your set up.
Let's look at today's big set up!
I have a few questions for you.
How do you go from 0 to your dreams? What's the set up behind living your life's purpose? Let me tell you!
It has to do with how you feel about yourself. Do you think that you deserve to live the way you want to?

How's your self esteem?

I remember a time when my self esteem was at the lowest of the lows? I thought I was ugly. I know you can't believe that because I'm so like slaying it right now. But growing up, I had a white friend and an Indian friend so I thought my dark skin was off.
My hair was awful. Alopecia wouldn't let me wear one ponytail like everybody else.
My self esteem said "Girl, you are not good enough!"
And when your self- esteem says that, you don't fight for what you want, you take whatever comes your way.
But something deep in me started to stir up & I was bold enough to tell myself that I am good enough. Even at 45 years old today, I still have to remind myself that I am good enough.

So now you might be wondering Virginia, how did I build my mind up?
These are the three things I started to do: the same things I use are in my Destined to Rise Program & in Chapter 6 of Master Your Journey: Simple Ways to push Pass Life.
  1. Put all of your belief in faith. Faith leads you to build the confidence of knowing that you are not pushing by myself.
  2. Start checking your "self". Self- worth, self esteem, self control & self care are essential. Evaluate who you really are & not basing yourself off of others. Embrace your uniqueness.
  3. Start worrying more about purpose and less about you. Focus on what really matters, which is to be of service to the world.

Today is not only my 45th birthday, it's my rebirth. Virginia has been born again! So if you struggle with feeling like you are good enough, I want you to reconsider and set yourself up by believing that  "Yes, I am the best"

Let's confess it together.

Say: "Yes, I am the best"

OCD: Overcome Compulsive Disorders

OCD: Overcome Compulsive Disorders

Up. Down. Left. Right. Wait a minute. That’s not right. Down. Up. Right. Left. Okay, maybe that’s good. Oh, no! If you carry the traits of obsessive compulsive disorder, those inner thoughts of aiming for perfection may be familiar to you.
Obsessive compulsive disorders affect approximately 2.3% of the population between ages 18- 54 (understanding_ocd.tripod.com). More people suffer from OCD than more commonly known mental health disorders such as panic attacks and bipolar disorder. So one will wonder, how does a seemingly uncommon challenge touch so many lives?

A common symptom of OCD is the perfect alignment of objectives.

CAUSE

For many years, OCD was believed to be the result of learned behaviors from life experiences. This conclusion is an understandable premise due to common OCD behaviors that include cleanliness and compulsive repetition of beliefs, thoughts and actions. But with today’s advanced research, the cause of OCD stems more toward biological origins. Through the study of PET scans, OCD has been connected to other neurological disorders such as Tourette’s syndrome & body dysmorphic disorder aka obsession with cosmetic changes and appearances (understanding_ocd.tripod.com).

EFFECT

Symptoms of OCD does not equal insanity. The behaviors and thoughts are unique and different but manageable. No need to think that an OCD lifestyle is beyond control or devastating.
OCD traumatizes most who are new to the symptoms. The repetitive and obsessive behaviors and thoughts that are characterized as OCD sometimes lead to agitation, anxiety, panic attacks, fear and depression. Most individuals who have learned to live with OCD in some way have learned to manage their symptoms to live a “normal” lifestyle.

OVERCOME OCD

Medication in combination with cognitive behavior therapy is the most effective method to management of obsessive compulsive behavior. This method should follow the diagnosis and recommendation of a professional healthcare personnel. Self- assessment and diagnosis of OCD or any other mental health challenge is not a sound option.
OCD support groups are another beneficial element in the remedy to relieving symptoms. Support groups aid in providing solace and comfort. Knowing that others have the same experiences of unwanted repetitions provides more opportunity to control and management skills.
The best way to overcome any life challenge is through changing the way you think about the challenge. Firstly, don’t think that your issue is a hindrance. Any challenge placed before you can strategically be moved to behind you.
Secondly, be bold enough to seek the assistance you need. Due to stigma associated with mental health and addiction, guidance is rarely sought. The last thing that needs to be focused on is how your issue adds up to someone else’s. No one has the same challenges or lifestyle. Do what is best for you to defeat your challenge.

The Big Set Up: Master Your Journey Book Launch Speech January 2017

Master Your Journey: The Big Set Up
Book Launch Speech January 21, 2017

Welcome family, friends, coworkers and associates to my Master Your Journey book launch. I appreciate each and every one of you for taking out the time to come celebrate this joyous occasion with me tonight.  You could have been anywhere else on a Saturday but you chose to spend it here with us.
I also want to thank my mother for making tonight a possibility. It’s because of her struggles with severe depression that this book, Master Your Journey could come out of me after 20 years past her death. And before I go another day, another hour or another second, I want to thank Jehovah Jireh, my provider, who made this all possible tonight. I give all the praise, all the glory and all the admiration to my higher power for this set up.

I have been set up from the beginning. Twenty- nine years ago as a teenage mother, I was being set up. As a victim of domestic violence, I was being set up. I was being set up when I had to put my babies on the daycare van at 7 o’clock in the morning, run to the front of the projects to put my other baby on the school bus and then make my way to the city bus by 7:30 AM for an 8 o’clock Biology class at Lamar University. The day my mother took her life and left my siblings and I devastated, I was being set up.
I could go on and on about how my life’s challenges have set me up for today. The truth of the matter is that everyone in this room has had something to do with today’s set up. My mother who Master Your Journey is dedicated to has been the main factor in this set up. Her struggle with depression led me to discovering my purpose in life.
I’m not trying to be all churchy in here tonight but I must do what tonight has called me to do. If it was not for Jehovah Jireh guiding me through to the set up, I would not be the phenomenal woman I am now. Isaiah 40: 30-31 says “even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But, those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” I tell you, I was set up for my life’s purpose through my life challenges. I grew from a single mother to a college graduate. I soared from an abusive relationship to a strong African American woman standing here before you. I went from running to the front of CDS to owning a business. I survived being a heart broken grief stricken daughter to an author making a dedication to the lady of my life.
And the set up is not over with yet. If you don’t know, you have been set up too. Tonight, amongst family and friends, I want us to toast to THE SET UP. Let’s toast to your set up and my set up. Everybody raise your glass of sparkling bubbly water, and let’s toast to the set up. On the count of three, everybody shout as loud as you can…. ”The Big Set Up!” ONE…. TWO…. THREE…..

Raise your hand if you are ready for your SET UP!
