Depression is Not a Sign of Weakness

Do you often hear voices in your head, whispering things to you, or you feel irritable, suicidal, anxious and you have a hopeless outlook of your life? These are symptoms of depression.

It is not news that depression whispers bad things into your mind about your capabilities. You hear things like “You can’t even do anything right, your life is a mess, why don’t you have a family at this age, your mates are making progress, you are too fat, or you are ugly,” and every other statement that makes you feel particularly bad about yourself.

If you are wondering why you keep feeling this way, no one knows what causes depression. It can occur due to a variety of reasons. It could be as a result of:

#1 Abuse

#2 Medications

#3 Death or loss of loved one

#4 Genetics

#5 Major life events

#6 Substance abuse

#7 Serious illnesses

Due to different symptoms of depression, it is a common assumption that depressed people are weak and not strong enough. What is worse is even people with depression blame themselves and feel their lack of strength is the reason they are depressed.

However, those who face depression are doing so with great strength, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Regardless of these factors, in life, everything negative, pressure and challenges is an opportunity for you to rise.

Stay positive and face life with hope and motivation.

Adapting to new beginnings can sometimes feel a little rough, but in many ways, the beauty in enjoying your new beginning is the sense of adventure that comes from it.

Depression: What Are the Causes?

Depression: What Are the Causes?

 https://www.pexels.com/photo/photo-of-person-lying-down-on-beach-2853193/

Marion Cotillard said, “when people don’t know exactly what depression is, they can be judgmental.” How many times has it felt like, “they just don’t understand me?” The simple truth is they don’t understand what you are experiencing because they are not you.

Depression is a mood disorder. It is the experience of sadness, hurt, pain, loss, or anger to a higher degree, and if not controlled, depression can interfere with one’s daily activities. When you feel so low and consumed with guilt and condemnation, then you are probably depressed.

Causes of Depression

When you are experiencing the symptoms of sadness, loneliness, guilt, condemnation, it is important you know the causes of these feelings. Your ability to identify these causes is the first step towards getting better.

According to WHO stats, approximately 280 million people in the world have depression, and this is why we must understand the causes of depression, which includes:

1. Old Age

2. Family Gene

3. Substance Misuse

4. Conflicts with Others

5. Hormonal Changes in Women

6. Grief from Losing a Loved One

7. Drugs Like Codeine, Morphine, etc.

8. A Life-Threatening Medical Condition

9. Abuse: Sexual, Emotional, or Physical

Now that you know the causes of depression, when next you feel depressed, ask yourself: Why am I depressed? Your ability to answer this question is the first step to coming out of it.

Drew Gerald said, “Look outside, and you will see yourself. Look inside, and you will find yourself.”

Whenever you’re depressed, what you need to do is look inward to find out what the causes are, then you can look into getting treatment. Also, never forget to remind yourself of the KING that you are. YOU ARE UNSTOPPABLE; not even depression can stop you!

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Causes and Symptoms in Veterans and Children

https://www.pexels.com/photo/frustrated-black-man-sharing-problem-with-female-psychotherapist-5699490/

Post-traumatic stress disorder, commonly known as PTSD, is a mental illness that is not gender or age-biased. An adult or a child can be diagnosed with this mental health condition. This disorder is diagnosed in those who have witnessed some terrific or life-threatening events like military veterans and sexually abused children.

According to the National Center for PTSD, studies show that about 15% to 43% of girls and 14% to 43% of boys go through at least one trauma. Out of these children and teens who have had a trauma, 3% to 15% of girls and 1% to 6% of boys develop PTSD.

Also, according to the National Center of PTSD, about 11-20 out of every 100 veterans who served in OIF or OEF have PTSD in a given year; about 12 out of every 100 Gulf war veterans have PTSD in a given year.

PTSD is a mental illness that should not be overlooked. Knowing the causes and symptoms in veterans, children, and other people will help us relate with them better and know how to help them.

Causes of PTSD

1. War

2. Neglect

3. Sexual Abuse

4. Physical Abuse

5. Natural Disasters

6. Domestic Violence

7. Car or Fire Accident

8. Psychological Abuse

9. Witnessing the Loss of a Loved One

Symptoms of PTSD

1. Lack of Sleep

2. Hypervigilance

3. Self-Destruction

4. Severe Nightmares

5. Aggressive Behavior

6. Lack of Trust in Others

7. Difficulty in Concentrating

8. Inability to Express Affection

9. Panic Attacks when Reminded of the Trauma

10. Inability to Remember Details of what Happened

11. Physical Sensations Such as Pain, Sweating, Nausea, or Trembling

12. Vivid Flashbacks: Re-Living the Events as If It is Happening Right Now

Keep in mind that if you have PTSD or a loved one has it, it is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of strength. You survived the incident, and since you survived, you can overcome the trauma that came as a result of the incident.

Sizzling Tips to Let Your Freedom Shine Through

Sizzling Tips to Let Your Freedom Shine Through

On October 14, 2017, I was emancipated. That was the day myself and 7 other courageously beautiful women got the chance to breath without restraints. We gained our freedom to live again. Each of us shared inspirational stories of how a traumatic event from the past transformed us into stronger human beings today.
Past traumatic events can hold you hostage for a long time. Don’t let your past hinder your future. There are realistic ways to overcome the fear of moving forward and live with freedom forever.

Actionable Ways to Rock Your Freedom:

Tip #1: Set Emotional Boundaries

To be happy means being comfortable with expressing how you feel about past situations whether good or bad. Don’t try to understand your feelings at first. Be patient. Allow it to flow through your body unrestrained. Then be kind enough to yourself to release it by setting healthy outlets.

Tip #2: Love Thy “Self”

The best way to break free from a traumatic setback is to take care of YOU! The battle is real so you need to be strong emotionally, mentally and physically. How do you do that?  Recognize and develop ALL of your “self”. Implement a plan to increase your self- love, self- respect, self- discipline, self- care, and the list goes on & on.

Tip #3: Use Your Heart

It’s obvious that the person who is inflicting the trauma does not have a heart. Use your heart as a symbol of motivation and strength. Build up your super power to be a long- standing survivor. Reach deep into your heart and focus on what or who is dear to your heart. Use that object of affection as a visual image to overcome any actions, feelings or thoughts resulting from the trauma.

During my years of trauma, I never forgot that something better was coming real soon. That was how I survived, and that’s how I grew strong enough to break free. If you are a victim of physical, emotional, financial, sexual abuse or maltreatment, don’t sit back and keep the pain inside…… Set it FREE!

Virginia Manning’s Project We Are Free 2017 Ode

BEAT UP

There is just one thing I want to know! Why are you always beating on me?
The sun rose. You woke up. You still have “Life” in your body. So why are you putting me down?
You can speak words out of your mouth. You are still in “your’ right mind. You can look in the mirror and “frown”! Why are you keeping me down?
But one day I looked in the mirror. I looked at my kids and cried no more!
The sun rose again. I woke up. Life took over my body. You will not always beat on me.
I started singing sweet psalms. My mind wasn’t right. I was down but with some fight.
I smiled. I panicked. I danced. I was frantic.
The sun rose yet again. And you were gone. My “self” appeared. My strength was strong. “It’s me”, she said. I’m free!
Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty! I’m Free at Last!
But that wasn’t the freedom that I needed at last. I needed to love all of me. My goods, my bads, my miracles and my faults…
And then…
My phone rang, and it was sad. the sorrow echoed and it said…
There is just one thing I want to know! Why are you always beating on me?
FREE AT LAST!
