Alcohol and Drugs Relapse

Alcohol and Drugs Relapse

What is Relapse?

Relapse occurs when an alcoholic or a drug user who has been abstaining from alcohol intake or drug use returns to taking these substances. The triggers that cause this relapse include:

#1 Rejection

#2 Depression

#3 Financial Problems

#4 Relationship Issues

#5 Work-Related Problems

#6 Emotional and Physical Stress

#7 Mental and Physical Health Issues

How to Prevent Relapse

Relapse doesn’t mean that you have failed; what you need to do is replace the habits with new ones by:

#1 Adopting a healthier lifestyle and behavior.

#2 Developing a good and healthy food diet.

#3 Building a positive self-image and self-control.

#4 Engaging in healthy activities—avoid boredom.

#5 Steering clear of people and places that trigger your substance use.

#6 Joining a strong support group and keeping a group of supportive friends and family.

If you have experienced a relapse or currently going through one, you don’t have to feel less of a human. Getting over a habit such as alcohol or drug abuse and turning a new leaf is a process. Don’t beat yourself up. Take courage, speak with people who can help you, and break off.

Attend therapy sessions, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, and stay accountable. It takes a lot of strong will and self-control to break off a habit, which is why you need to stay among a community of people who can be of great help to you.

Make sure you dig deep into why you relapsed and use that as a means of identifying your triggers so that you can avoid co-occurring disorders associated with substance abuse.

Holli Kenley said,

“Shame serves to fuel and feed relapse. Further relapse fuels and feeds shame.”

Do not allow fear or shame when you relapse; rather, stay accountable to those who can help you.

Good Stress vs. Bad Stress: How to Tell the Difference

Good Stress vs. Bad Stress: How to Tell the Difference

Stress is our body’s response to fear and anxiety. It is a survival instinct. While we are rushing to meet project deadlines, sitting in traffic or juggling family life it is easy to get overwhelmed.

However, some kinds of stress can be a motivating force in your life—like worrying about a project, presentation, competing for promotion or even going on a first date. Good stress is the type of stress you feel when excited. Your pulse accelerates and you feel the surging of your hormones. It keeps you feeling great and excited about life. However, bad stress occurs when you repeatedly face stressors that take a heavy toll on your mood.

It could be a stressful job, an unhappy lifestyle or something that constantly puts you in a bad mood and makes you lose interest in family and hobbies.

So how do you deal with good stress vs. bad stress?

#1 Dedicate time to Yoga and meditation

#2 Take walks frequently

#3 Maintain social connections

#4 Exercise regularly

#5 Always remind yourself of your strengths

#6 Have a positive mindset

#7 Try to see the potential benefits of every situation

#8 Create your method of self-care

#9 Try journaling whenever you feel overwhelmed

#10 Plan ahead

#11 Reach out for help

You! Yes, You! You Deserve All the Love

You! Yes, You! You Deserve All the Love

Why are you so uncomfortable about what makes you so powerful? For many people, the concept of self-love might bring up images of cheesy self-care books, or binge-watching your favorite series on Netflix. But as many psychologists attest, self-love and compassion are the keys to good health and mental well-being.
Most of the time when you are too hard on yourself, you need to know this; the persecutory inner voice that prevents you from celebrating your little wins and showing yourself a daily dose of self-love is the hallmark of perfectionism.

Use these four keys to improve on self-love:
#1 Self-Care
You deserve all the love and attention. It produces positive feelings and boosts your self-esteem. Taking care of yourself is also an important reminder to yourself and others that you and your needs are important.
#2 Self-Confidence
Embracing your self-confidence radiates a natural beauty that cannot be diluted or ignored. You need to love and celebrate yourself no matter what because even if you don’t fit into society’s standard, you are still awesome regardless. This is what makes you powerful, absolutely fearless, and comfortable in your skin.
#3 Self-Worth
Accepting the uniqueness of your self-worth is magical, and it starts with you. Whenever you have negative thoughts, turn them into positive affirmations. Say them with full conviction, and you will see changes in how you feel and act.
#4 Self-Control
Being in control is vital to achieving the goals you have set for yourself. It gives you inner strength and the ability to stick to your decisions.

Self-love is not being selfish. It is simply learning how to prioritize your happiness.

Uh-Oh! You Are Dealing With Triggers of Covid the Wrong Way

People who experience traumatic events sometimes find substance use as a way to deal with the situation. Drugs and/or alcohol furnish negative coping strategies in reaction to dramatic situations. Now with the horrific experience of COVID19, substance use may be the comforting shoulder for many. When dealing with a traumatic event, evaluate if you want a positive outcome or negative outcome. Choosing to use drugs to cope will normally result in negative consequences.

Positive Coping Strategies That Equal Positive Results

Distractors Alcohol and drugs are distractors but they keep you from living a healthy and prosperous life. Instead occupy your thoughts and time with positive distractors from reexperiencing trauma. Participate in exercising to your favorite song, cleaning an area of your house that is cluttered or declutter your mind by journaling, drawing or art work.

Interactors Being around positivity can brighten your mood and decrease thoughts of using substances such as drugs and alcohol. Spend time with a positive friend or family member via FaceTime or Duo or talk to your next best friend, AKA your pet.

Counselors Sometimes it takes a professional to change your perspective or outlook on a traumatic situation. Sometimes your feelings and emotions are private and you do not want to share with others who know you. Seek a therapist to confide in and get advice.

Remember… just because a situation yields a negative pathway does not mean your response to dealing with the situation has to be negative. Negative coping will only make negativity the continuing pattern.

Let’s talk about COVID19. Talking out ways to effectively handle trauma is the best option!

Don’t Let Other’s Expectations Side Track You From Your 2020 Goals!

Don’t Let Other’s Expectations Side Track You From Your 2020 Goals!

Of course, quitting is always an option but do you want the results that quitting produces (nothing) or the results that being persistent produces (success)? Achieving goals are not a quick process so be persistent and celebrate each step that you are closer to your 2020 goals.

Others always expect you to lose... stats always predict the worst...

This is what others expect from you:

• 75% of people will abandon their 2020 goals by Feb 1st. :/
• 92% won't ever achieve them  :(
• 5.3B people in the world will give up on their goals in the next three weeks and 6.4B people will fail to achieve them in 2020.

But this is what you should expect:

• 100%  win, win, win
• 100% completion
• 110% hard work
• 0% quitter

Steps into WINS with these 3 tips:

#1 Be p o s i t i v e ! Stay focused on the wins, not the setbacks you experience to get there.

“Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.”
⁃ Vince Lombardi

#2 Be prepared! Completion of goals don’t just randomly happen. You have to intentionally plan out an action plan to attack your goals.

“The key is not the will to win… everybody has that.
It is the will to prepare to win that is important.”
⁃ Bobby Knight

#3  Be persistent. Winners never quit, they just change up their moves. If something is not working as planned, that’s not a failure. The next smart move is to change up the plan of action.

“I hated every minute of training, but I said,
‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’”
⁃ Muhammad Ali

2020 is the Year of The Go- Getters.

Are You PLOM Out of Your Mind?

Are You PLOM Out of Your Mind?

Life can be harsh! Without positive guidance and support, the trials and tribulations of life will have you chanting, "Poor Little Ole Me!" Developing the strength to overcome any challenge takes more than wishing & hoping for deliverance. You need to put some strategies into action behind those prayers.

4 STEPS TO GET PASS P.L.O.M. MINDSET:

STEP 1:

Think that you can & you will! The mind is a powerful tool behind gaining success. Whatever you feed into your mind will determine what it puts out into the atmosphere. Infuse your mind with positivity and your behaviors will reflect positively. Emotions, thoughts and behaviors are subconsciously connected.

STEP 2:

Celebrate every accomplishment you make in life regardless of how small you or anyone else thinks it is. It's those small boosts in self- esteem that causes even bigger feelings of self- worth. Celebrating your wins can be as small as treating yourself to your favorite ice cream to buying yourself a new suit to wear at the next event you attend. (Hint: A GMC event)

STEP 3:

Surround yourself with those who want you to win. When celebrating your accomplishments, be sure to include the people who can cheer you on. There is nothing worse than feeling good about yourself and then Debby Downer comes along to steal your joy. According to Jim Rohn, “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

STEP 4:

Keep in mind, no one is perfect. Allow yourself room to make mistakes without feeling guilty. There is a huge difference between those who succeed and those who fail after making a mistake. Those who succeed after a mistake practice these three things: #1: They learn from their mistakes. #2: They use the lesson learned as a means to correcting the mistake. #3: Successful people keep going strong after a mistake is made.

Self- pity gets you nowhere fast. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, accept the situation that life has dealt you. You are in control of the end result. Develop the strength and strategies that you need to overcome your temporary situation. Don’t let your current circumstances be the way you view yourself. Go get your life!
